The Weequahic Way summer camp traditions

The American Camp Experience

We are thrilled to welcome a small number of fantastic campers from a wide variety of countries from around the world.

Hi, I’m Cole.

Alongside my wife, Kate, I’m happy to introduce Weequahic to you. Directors since 2009, we’ve spent our lives building meaningful and fun communities for our campers and staff. I hope you’ll enjoy learning of more!

The Weequahic Difference

There are a lot of great summer camps in the United States. What sets Weequahic apart?

  • Camp is all about relationships. We get to know every camper and family before they arrive at camp in an effort to create the most memorable, fun experience of their lives!
  • Our campers get to pick their activities and enjoy them with other campers their same age and gender. (Our 14 through 16-year-olds have their own facility to enjoy within camp and have more co-ed time together.)
  • We celebrate the values of Gratitude, Attitude and Courage in the hopes of helping parents build good humans.

Session Lengths and Cost

International camp families can join us for Six, three or two weeks during the summer. Campers must start on one of the following two dates. It is important that all the campers in our bunks begin their camp experience on the same day.

Start Date #1 – Saturday, June 28th

Start Date #2 – Monday, July 21st

The cost of a two-week stay at Weequahic is $5100 US. A three-week stay is $6950 while six weeks is $12400. These prices include everything camp has to offer (except Horseback Riding): transfers between the New York City airports and camp, camp shirts, linens and towels for all International campers, tickets into our camp trips and spending cash for the trips themselves.

Location

Camp Weequahic is located 2.5 hours northwest of New York City and 3 hours north of Philadelphia. We are Wayne County, PA, one of the most popular summer-camp regions in the United States.

How It Works

International camp families must set up a time to visit with Director Cole via Zoom (unless he’s already met you while traveling.) He will let you know if there is room available for your camper’s age group and session length request.

During the Summer

International campers may travel with their cell phones. However, these are taken at the start of the camp session and stored in the Main Office until their departure from Weequahic. Camp families can see pictures – updated twice daily – send emails to be printed and delivered to their camper, and read the through the Daily News bulletin online.

There is one phone call during a two or three-week session between campers and their parents. You can reach out to camp anytime and someone will help you.

All campers are required to write at least two letters home a week. Our International Campers receive a special ‘scan form’ on which they can write. These notes are scanned and emailed to their parents at camp.

History

Camp Weequahic was founded in 1953 by Art and Mollie Lustig. A member of the Weequahic High School staff in Newark, NJ, Mr. Lustig searched for the perfect place to start a summer camp. Our wonderful property by Sly Lake certainly fit the bill.

From 1953 until the 2008 season, members of the Lustig family directed Weequahic. Known for its caring atmosphere, excellent facilities, creative activities and wonderful lake, Weequahic became a popular camp in the northeast.

Cole and Kate Kelly took the torch so ably held by Lustig family in 2009. Having run private camps in the northeast for many years, they wanted to find a place with deep traditions where they could bring their years of experience and their family.

The Kelly’s are thrilled to continue the great traditions of Weequahic while welcoming new campers and ideas from all over the world.
