Arts
Vibrant, creative options abound at Camp Weequahic. Campers who want to build, paint, act, draw, sew, sing, play, cook, code and create will enjoy doing so in our updated facilities under the watchful eyes of experienced leaders.
The Studio
Want to create, paint, draw, or design? Our creative options in the Studio are too many to list. Whether focusing on specific projects in Jewelry, Painting, Drawing, or Crafts or deciding to enjoy the Project of the Day, our campers can’t wait to create in our recently redesigned indoor/outdoor Studio with the helpful hands of our experienced staff close by.
Robotics
Part of our STEM programming at Weequahic, campers build, code, and create mechanical and digital marvels each summer using LEGO Mindstorm and other fabulous options. Campers with more experience can join in on our RoboCup series which pits individuals and teams against one another in robotic competitions.
Magic
Whether you want to be a part of Stage or Close Up Magic, our teachers can help kids of any experience come up with a trick or two that will astound your friends.
Dance
Hip Hop, Modern, Jazz
A wide variety of options exist for our dancers at Camp Weequahic. Whether improving their skils in Hip Hop, Modern, or Jazz or working with our choreographers to prepare for the upcoming play or Wayne County Dance competition, our dancers have huge smiles on their faces!
Cooking
Three different kitchen experiences await Weequahic campers. Children from 5th grade and younger will enjoy Weelicious, a cooking facility using induction cooking to create scrumptious meals and treats from start to finish.
Campers in 6th through 10th grades join our Top Chef cooking kitchen with modern gas ranges to make (nut-free) meals such as pad thai, homemade pasta, and fabulous desserts.
For campers in 8th grade and up who want a different challenge, our Grill Masters class give them all the skills needed to cook from start to finish on the grill.
All of the cooking classes are supervised by trained, experienced staff who help keep the campers safe while honing their culinary skills.
Film Making
Need description.
Guitar
What could be better than learning how to play such a popular instrument while at summer camp? Campers who want to pick up some chords and strum patterns can do so under the watchful eyes of our instructors. Already know your way around six-string? Our team can help you reach new heights!
Digital Photo, Film Making and Animation
Campers learn the basics and the finer points of capturing and augmenting great images of the days of summer. Whether searching around Weequahic on a photo scavenger hunt, creating storyboards and videos, or developing marketing materials for the upcoming camp play, our digital photo kids get to play with this popular tech in a lot of fun, campy ways.
Fashion Design
Our newly refurbished Fashion Studio allows campers to create in so many ways! From working with needle and thread to the sewing machines or putting their design ideas on paper, Weequahic campers get to create masterpieces from scratch with only their imagination to hold them back.
Chess
Searching for the next Fisher or Polgar? You’ve come to the right place! Well… not really. But, we do offer chess instruction and games for those interested in playing and improving their skills.
Keyboard
Want to get better at tickling the keys? Our team of songwriters and teachers can help! It doesn’t matter if you are learning your first chords or working on a classical movement, the Weequahic music team will help take each camper to the next level.
Theatre
Getting up on stage can be a daunting experience for many. Thankfully, our campers do so with all their friends to enjoy an all-camp play in each of our three-week sessions. If you want a part, raise your hand and join the show! Our Broadway style musicals involve acting, singing, and dancing and are put on in front of the entire camp. An average of 70 campers are involved in each Theater Play.
Want to be a part of the show but not on stage? We’ve got you covered! We offer Set Design and Costume Design classes as well as need campers to help with the Set Operations and Audio Visual aspects of each show.
Love to act and want more than ‘just’ being a part of the play? Join our very popular Improv Class to practice your imagination, timing and teamwork with other campers and staff who can’t get enough of the theater arts!
Rock Band
Let’s rock it out on our newly built Weequahic Sound Stage. Replete with drums, guitars, keyboards, amps, mics, lights, and mixing board, our campers can work together to come up with some amazing moments. Want to take the show on the road? Play in our annual Free Play HQ Concert series in front of the entire camp!
Radio
Ever wanted to do your own talk-show or broadcast your music choices to friends and family alike? Want to talk sports or lifestyle? Play rock, reggae, or Top 20? WEEQ195.3 will give you all the opportunity you can enjoy!
Rocketry
Blast off! Campers build single and multi-stage rockets using A, B, and C engines that blast up and over camp. The only thing more distinct than the sound a rocket makes heading skyward is its camper-custom paint job!
Clay Nation
With six pottery wheels, two kilns, and unlimited amounts of clay and imagination, our campers truly get their hands muddy! A popular daily activity, Clay Nation also makes an appearance in both our Tribal and Olympic ‘color war’ events!
Woodworking
One of the most creative spots on camp, our carvers and shapers get to create the daily project or team up with one of our trained staff members to design and create their own. We’ve seen everything from 5’ tall giraffes to computer desks and everything in between come out of Woodshop!
